Six reasons families choose Songkran Law
Specialist focus
Our practice covers inheritance and succession matters exclusively. That focus translates into depth that a general practice cannot replicate.
Measured pace
We work at a pace that allows clients to understand what is happening and make informed decisions without feeling pressured.
Professional discretion
Estate matters are deeply personal. We treat every engagement with the confidentiality that the circumstances demand.
Written fee clarity
Fees are stated clearly and agreed in writing before any work begins. There is no ambiguity about cost or scope.
Cross-border capability
We regularly handle estates that span national jurisdictions and can coordinate with practitioners abroad where needed.
Plain-language updates
Clients receive regular, plain-language updates on the progress of their matter — not just court filings and legal summaries.
Professional expertise in Thai succession law
The lawyers at Songkran Law have spent their careers working specifically in the area of Thai succession and estate law. This is not a field that is handled occasionally alongside other types of work; it is the centre of what we do. That means we are current with court decisions, procedural developments, and the practical challenges that arise in estate administration — including the particular complexities of estates involving foreign property, non-Thai heirs, or assets that were never formally registered.
- 14+ years of practice in Thai succession and probate matters
- Thorough knowledge of the Civil and Commercial Code, Books V and VI
- Ongoing continuing legal education in succession-related developments
A structured, methodical process for every matter
Each engagement begins with a thorough intake conversation that allows us to understand the full picture before any advice is given. We map the estate, identify the relevant heirs, assess any risks or complications, and prepare a clear written summary of our understanding and proposed approach. This investment of time at the outset reduces the likelihood of misunderstandings or delays later in the process.
- Structured intake process with written engagement summary
- Clear milestones communicated to the client throughout
- Coordination with courts, registries, and third-party professionals handled by our team
Client communication that respects your autonomy
We believe clients are entitled to understand exactly what is happening in their matter and why. Our communications are written in plain language, explain the significance of each development, and give the client what they need to make considered decisions. We do not make choices on our clients' behalf without discussion, and we do not proceed to new stages of work without confirmation from the client.
- Regular written progress updates in plain English
- Decisions are always made with the client, not for them
- Telephone and email access to your assigned lawyer throughout
Fee structures that are fair and clearly stated
Our service fees are published and agreed in writing before any engagement begins. For Estate Planning Conversations the fee is ฿2,400; for Probate Conduct with Heir Coordination ฿9,200; and for Full Inheritance Litigation ฿10,800. These represent the full cost for the defined scope of work. Any variation that would affect the fee is discussed with the client and agreed before proceeding.
- Published fees with no hidden charges
- Written fee agreement before work commences
- Scope adjustments discussed and agreed in advance
Outcomes built on thorough preparation
In contested inheritance matters, the quality of preparation — particularly the handling of evidence and the precision of legal drafting — has a significant bearing on how the court receives the case. Our approach to litigation prioritises careful groundwork, with each filing reviewed by a senior lawyer before submission. We do not treat any aspect of a client's matter as routine, regardless of how familiar the legal questions may appear.
- Senior lawyer review of all court filings
- Methodical evidence preparation and organisation
- Appellate work included where required in litigation engagements
How We Differ
Songkran Law versus the general practice approach
General practice firms
- Inheritance matters handled alongside a wide variety of other legal work
- Client may be passed between lawyers as staffing changes
- Fees may be billed hourly, making total cost difficult to predict
- Cross-border questions may be referred externally with limited coordination
- Communication may be infrequent or in legal terminology without explanation
Songkran Law
- Exclusive focus on Thai succession and inheritance law throughout the practice
- A named lawyer works with the client from intake to resolution
- Published, fixed service fees agreed in writing before work begins
- Cross-border matters coordinated in-house with our international referral network
- Regular, plain-language updates throughout every engagement
What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive features of our practice
Succession-only mandate
We do not accept matters outside the field of succession and estate law. This is not a constraint — it is a deliberate choice that allows us to maintain a level of specialist knowledge that broader practices cannot.
Family-centred communication model
Where multiple heirs or family members are involved in an engagement, we structure our communications to keep all relevant parties informed at an appropriate level, reducing the risk of misunderstanding or tension arising from information asymmetry.
Named lawyer continuity
Clients work with a named lawyer from the first meeting to the conclusion of the matter. There is no internal handover that requires the client to re-explain their situation to a new person.
Sensitivity to timing and emotional context
We are aware that clients often come to us during or after a difficult period. Our approach to engagement timing, communication frequency, and language is shaped by that awareness.
